WOOHOO BABE YOU’RE ENGAGED! Now it’s time to level up those “couples photos” & add a little sparkle to them, aka YOUR RING. Let’s not only update your photos but, now it’s time to do your research for your wedding photographer! With my wedding packages I include an engagement session because it gives the photographer the opportunity to get to know you & your babe & grow that friendship while also learning how you two operate in front of the camera. Just like how I get to know you, you two would get to know me & how crazy I am behind the camera! Also, when your wedding day arrives (which trust me, it’ll come up fast!), we will already be bffs & you won’t have to worry about a stranger of a photographer introducing themselves to you for the first time.
TIP 1: Wear whatever you’re comfortable in & stay with neutral colors! Trust me, you don’t have to show up in a sequin gown or suit & black tie. Unless you want to! But, if you’re comfortable in a pair of mom jeans & a sweater, by all means, I will not stop you! That’s my style too. 😉
Stick with neutral, warm tones
Stay away from busy prints, bright colors, & logos
TIP 2: Schedule around the sun! I’m sure you’re familiar with the phrase “golden hour” & there’s a reason why it’s a photographer’s favorite hour of the day! It’s always best to schedule your session in the early morning or evening because the light is warmer (aka golden), & not as harsh. For sessions or weddings that take place during the daytime, the sun is harsher & shooting in direct sunlight risks harsh shadows. So, typically when shooting throughout the day, photographers will seek out shade to rid of those harsh shadows or we will use it in our favor & get creative with shooting in the direct sun!
TIP 3: Make it sentimental! I always ask when I’m scheduling engagement sessions if there is anywhere meaningful that the couple would like to travel to. For example, the place your babe proposed to you! If there isn’t a location that stands out, what’re some activities you two enjoy doing together? Snowshoeing? Hiking? Going on picnics? By the way, I am game for allllllll of these! Are there are articles of clothing that have a value to you? A sweater that was a gift? These are all fun things to think about when it comes to your engagement session. All of this helps me get to know & document the true love birds!
TIP 4: Make a date of it! I will always, always, always recommend making a date of it. Want to hike to the top of a mountain or to a waterfall & bring a six pack of beer? Or as I like to call it, “liquid courage”. 😉 Or, grab dinner before or after your session! Pack food for a picnic & let’s go hangout in the forest!
TIP 5: If you’re questioning whether or not to bring your fur babe(s) with to your session? Don’t even give it a second thought & BRING THEM!
