It’s the first day of the new year & you’re engaged! OR, you’ve been engaged for a period of time & you’ve just come across this blog post. Either way, CONGRATULATIONS! Trust me, I know wedding planning can be hectic & a cause a real migraine. Enter, Emily! I’ve created a list of tips to help you & your wedding planning process be like smooth ground coffee.
TIP 1: Let your photographer assist you with planning out your day’s timeline! Putting together your wedding day’s timeline can be very stressful so allow your photographer to help nail down how much time will be needed for certain events.
TIP 2: If ‘getting ready’ photos are a must, consider finding a location that offers an abundance of natural light & is spacious. The more natural light, the better!
TIP 3: Take advantage of doing a first look! Why? Because it gives you & your fiancé the opportunity for more bridal portraits while also providing you two some time to catch your breath before the day unravels.
TIP 4: Ask your officiant to make an announcement prior to the ceremony starting asking for guests to silence & put away their phones. Trust me, I understand how important photos & videos are! Especially when it comes to happy events like weddings! But a photographer was hired for a reason and part of that reason is to allow wedding guests to be present during the ceremony & reception.
TIP 5: Speaking of your officiant, consider asking them if they could quickly step out of the frame for the first kiss! This will help your photographer capture the kiss perfectly & without any other heads in the shot.
TIP 6: If you & your babe are writing your own vows, make sure to make them into a keepsake! Purchase vow books from Etsy or Amazon for you two to write them in.
TIP 7: Create a detailed list of immediate family members you’d like photos with. This will help the family photo process become more organized & structured! Once there is a list of immediate family, a list for non immediate family can be created. Don’t worry about any “oh wait, I didn’t add so & so on the list!” because after everyone has been photographed that are on the lists, that opens up the floor for any additional photos to be taken!
TIP 8: Place your wedding cake correctly! Avoid placing your cake up against a wall, window, or curtain & place it in a central place because this will allow the opportunity for the photographer to get creative & gives a more flattering angle when taking photos with the cake.
TIP 9: COMMUNICATION IS KEY! Photographers aren’t mind readers, as much as we would like to be sometimes. If you have any special requests, concerns, or insecurities, make sure to inform your photographer because the more we know, the better! The more information we know, the more it helps us come up with a game plan.
TIP 10: Take time to prep all the details you’d like photographed! Once you know all the details you’d like documented, make sure you put everything together in a safe place so nothing gets lost & it’ll all be in the same place for the photographer.
*Details include: rings, perfume, shoes, jewelry, ties, cologne, cufflinks, watches, etc!
TIP 11: Remind your bridal party & family members to empty out their pockets prior to photos. It’s a small detail that can often be missed but when a phone is in a front pocket of a groomsman, you can see the outline of the phone in the photo! So, let’s keep it professional & remove any keys, wallets, phones, etc from the pockets. OH, & let’s not forget removing those hats & sunglasses!
